Between 29 and 31 October 2002, the Interpol General Secretariat organizes in Lyons the 5th International Symposium on Works of Art, Cultural Property and Antiques.

This event takes place every three years. More than 80 delegates from all the regions of the world including experts from law enforcement and customs agencies, cultural institutions, professional bodies, as well as international and regional organizations (UNESCO, Council of Europe, European Commission, Europol, International Council of Museums -ICOM) will meet and exchange their experience on the fight against the theft of and the illicit trafficking in works of art and cultural property. Other topics of discussion are i. a. the protection of archaeological objects, the investigative tools available, and the sale of works of art through the Internet.
