Procedures for Recovering Stolen Vehicles from Abroad (Europe)

1. Police requirements for identification and release
  1. Identification
    • any person who is expected to come and identify a motor vehicle in Swaziland has to be accompanied by the police from his/her country.
    • an appointment has to be made through the INTERPOL office (car theft office) which in turn shall communicate with the relevent police station.
    • the complainant/owner must bring with him his/her identity document or passport.
    • he/she must also bring with him/her the registration documents of the motor vehicle.
    • the relevant police official has to bring a copy of the statement of the person who reported the case in the said police station.
  1. Release of the motor vehicle
    • the complainant /owner has to be accompanied by a police official from the mother country.
    • the complainant /owner has to bring his/her identity document and the origional registration number of the vehicle.
    • incase of an insured vehicle and when it has been indemnified, the person has to write a letter authorising the insurance company to receive the vehicle on his behalf.
    • the insurer /financer has to write a letter authorising the said representative of the company to receive the letter on its behalf.
    • the representative of the insurer or financer has to bring with him the origional registration documents of the vehicle and his identity document.
    • legal representation is required when going to make an application for a motor vehicle in court.
    • the owner or legal representative can apply for the release.
    • in case of tempered with motor vehicles, the complainant must come for identification of the motor vehicle.
