Middle East and North Africa
Mission
The mission of the Middle East and North Africa Sub-Directorate is to strengthen and improve police co-operation between member countries in this region.
Goals
- To provide adequate support at regional and national levels
- To make available relevant regionally-based information
- To increase the exchange of information within the region
- To expand the flow of information related to specialized crime areas
- To encourage the exchange of good practice between NCBs in the region
Major priorities
The main tasks and services for the Middle East and North Africa Sub-Directorate are:
- To perform secretariat services for INTERPOL General Secretariat activities in the region, including the Middle East and North Africa Contact Officers' meeting.
- To enhance the performances of NCBs through identifying problems and assisting NCBs in overcoming difficulties in international co-operation.
- To organize training for NCB officers on Interpol programmes, initiatives and activities of interest.
- To raise interest among Middle East and North Africa member countries in Interpol activities.
- To develop and enhance relationships with regional organizations and non-member countries.
- To increase the exchange of information among member countries and with the General Secretariat.
Structure
The sub-directorate is staffed by one Assistant Director from United Arab Emirates and three Regional Specialized officers, from Algeria, Egypt and Lebanon. They are responsible for co-ordinating NCB activities within INTERPOL’s most populous working region.
Asian Regional Conference and African Regional Conference
Given the geographical position of countries within the Middle East and North Africa region, the Middle East and North Africa Sub-Directorate participates actively in both the African and the Asian Regional Conferences which are held every two years. These regional conferences are an important meeting where policy and strategy are discussed, concerning the improvement of police co-operation between the member countries in each region and the crime situation. Discussions are based on preparatory work carried out by officials of the Sub-Directorate for Africa and the Sub-Directorate for Asia and South Pacific.

There are 17 National Central Bureaus in the Middle East and North Africa region.
Algeria – Bahrain – Egypt – Iran – Iraq – Jordan – Kuwait – Lebanon – Libya – Morocco – Oman – Qatar – Saudi Arabia – Syria – Tunisia – United Arab Emirates – Yemen.
