Mission

The mission of the Sub-Directorate for Europe is to strengthen and improve police cooperation within Europe by:

  1. Increasing the exchange of information relevant to crime areas in the European Region;
  2. Holding regional meetings on specific subjects in order to exchange information;
  3. Establishing future strategy and further strengthening co-operation within law enforcement communities in the region;
  4. Providing adequate support in quality and real-time achievement.

 

Objectives
  1. To perform secretariat services for the European Interpol activities, such as the European Regional Conference, the Interpol European Committee, and the European Contact Officers meetings.
  2. To perform liaison activities for the member countries and the General Secretariat.
  3. To co-operate and co-ordinate procedures and activities with other international and regional organizations dealing with police matters (Co-operation initiatives).
  4. To advise on legal and technical possibilities for investigations and update the booklet on 'European Police and Judicial Systems'.
  5. To give assistance in exchange of relevant police information and co-ordination in ongoing investigations when need be, facilitating the access of practical information (Frequently Asked Questions).
  6. To assist member countries in the enhancement of the role of their NCBs through the organization of NCB staff training courses and Interpol Awareness seminars.
  7. To visit member countries to identify and remedy difficulties and problems in co-operation through the Exchange of Good Practice programme .
  8. To organize and support ad-hoc working groups or projects in specific fields.
  9. To organize and co-ordinate visits to the Interpol General Secretariat for member countries, law enforcement agencies and international organizations.
  10. To maintain permanent and close contact with the INTERPOL’s officer seconded to the Europol Headquarters in The Hague/Netherlands
