Swiss police recover two masterpieces stolen from Zurich museum

On 18 February 2008, Swiss police recovered two valuable paintings – a Monet and a Van Gogh – which had been stolen in an armed robbery from the Buehrle Museum in Zurich on 10 February. Claude Monet’s “Poppies near Vétheuil” and Vincent Van Gogh’s “Blossoming chestnut branches” were found in good condition in a car parked in front of a psychiatric hospital in Zurich not far from the museum.

Two other paintings stolen in the same robbery – Paul Cezanne’s “Boy in a red vest” and Edgar Degas’s “Count Lepic and his daughters” – are still missing. The investigations are on-going.
