LYON, France – Acting Director of the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) Jonathon Scharfen headed a delegation to the INTERPOL General Secretariat to discuss greater co-operation in enhancing border security.

Mr Scharfen met with INTERPOL Secretary General Ronald K. Noble and other senior staff to discuss a range of issues and was also updated on the Organization’s range of services and activities. Don Crocetti, Chief, Fraud Detection/National Security division briefed senior INTERPOL officials on the role of USCIS in detecting threats to border security and the integrity of the immigration system.

Since expanding access to INTERPOL’s Stolen and Lost Travel Documents database to international airports including JFK in New York earlier this year, the US has already carried out more than 30 million searches against the database, resulting in nearly 4,000 individuals being identified as travelling on invalid documents.
