Russian Federation Prosecutor General, Yuri Chaika, accompanied by a senior delegation, today made an official visit to INTERPOL’s General Secretariat in Lyon, France, to enhance law enforcement co-operation between the Russian Federation and INTERPOL.
On the first visit to INTERPOL by a Russian Federation Prosecutor General, Mr Chaika (pictured right in the foreground) drew particular attention to the importance of INTERPOL as the world's largest police organization. He stated that “INTERPOL needs to ensure that it always remains independent and apolitical.” He added that “more member countries need to make greater use of INTERPOL Red Notices", or international wanted persons notices.
Talks also reviewed progress on INTERPOL’s network modernization programme in the Russian Federation through Project TACIS – Technical Assistance to the Commonwealth of Independent States – carried out via a joint European Commission-INTERPOL partnership.
Today's visit follows INTERPOL’s 77th General Assembly hosted by St Petersburg earlier this month, during which INTERPOL’s Global Security Initiative (GSI) was adopted as the Organization’s strategic vision for 21st century policing.
