Lithuania to further strengthen co-operation with INTERPOL following police chief visit to confirm secondment of officer

LYON, France – Lithuania’s Police Commissioner General Vizgirdas Telycenas today underlined his commitment to increasing the use of INTERPOL’s tools and services following a visit to the General Secretariat during which he also confirmed a police officer would be seconded to Lyon in early 2009.

Commissioner General Telycenas, accompanied by Head of the Lithuanian Criminal Police Bureau Chief Commissioner Algirdas Matonis and Senior Commissioner Edmundas Jankunas, Head of the International Liaison Office, met with senior INTERPOL officials.

Secretary General Ronald K. Noble welcomed Lithuania’s decision to second an officer to the General Secretariat as ‘another clear demonstration of their commitment to supporting international law enforcement co-operation’.

In addition to briefings on INTERPOL’s range of databases, the Lithuanian delegation were also updated on the assistance provided to member countries by the Fugitive Investigative Support unit in hunting dangerous criminals via INTERPOL channels.

Commissioner General Telycenas expressed his interest in the significant results being achieved through member countries’ expansion of access to INTERPOL’s Stolen and Lost Travel Documents (SLTD) database beyond the National Central Bureaus (NCBs) currently underway in 55 of its 187 member countries
