| Canadian Police Commissioner visit underlines value of international co-operation in combating transnational crime |

Enhancing partnerships in combating all forms of transnational crime was high on the agenda during a visit of Commissioner of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, William Elliott to the INTERPOL General Secretariat in Lyon, France.
Commissioner Elliott met with Executive Director of Police Services Jean-Michel Louboutin and other senior officers and was briefed on a range of INTERPOL tools and activities including the expansion of access to INTERPOL’s databases.
An update on the development of the G8 International Child Sexual Exploitation Image (ICSE) database at the INTERPOL General Secretariat and which will give national investigators, including those in Canada, direct access to INTERPOL’s existing Child Abuse Image Database, which contains more than 500,000 images of up to 20,000 victims, as well as improved access to information contained in databases held by police in other countries.
In January 2003, Canada was the first country to connect to I-24/7, INTERPOL’s secure global police communications network which now joins each of its 186 member countries, enabling law enforcement officers around the world to communicate and exchange vital police information in real time.
