11 August 2008

LYON, France – The appointments of three new directors to key departments at INTERPOL’s General Secretariat have been announced.

Directors were named for the Information Systems and Technology Directorate, Police Training and Development Directorate and Office of Legal Affairs following a worldwide recruitment process.

“As the world’s largest police organization, with 186 member countries, it is vital that our staff at the General Secretariat not only reflect INTERPOL’s diversity but also bring the relevant policing experience in order to meet the needs of our National Central Bureaus (NCBs) and national police services,” said INTERPOL Secretary General Ronald K. Noble.

“I am confident all three of these individuals’ many accomplishments and experiences have prepared them well for the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead at INTERPOL.”

Noboru Nakatani, who has served at the INTERPOL General Secretariat as Assistant Director of the Financial and High-Tech Crime Sub-Directorate, has been named as the new Director of Information Systems and Technology. For the Japanese Presidency of the G-8 in 2008, Mr Nakatani acted as a liaison between INTERPOL and the Justice and Home Affairs Ministers’ Meeting Secretariat, in addition to participating in the G-8 High-Tech Crime Sub-Group to further develop INTERPOL’s cybercrime initiatives, including the expansion of access to INTERPOL’s secure global police communications system, I-24/7, to national cybercrime units.

The new Director of Police Training and Development is Dale L. Sheehan, who has held numerous positions in the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) since 1986. He has served since 2007 as Chief Superintendent, Director-General of RCMP Learning and Development, responsible for the management of RCMP in-service training and the implementation, design and delivery of various other national and international training programmes and course training standards. He received medals from the United Nations and the Canadian government for his service on the UN peacekeeping force in the former Yugoslavia.

Joël Sollier has been appointed to the post of Director of the Office of Legal Affairs. Mr Sollier has been serving as Chief of Unit of the UN Security Council’s Counter-Terrorism Committee, where his responsibilities have included monitoring countries throughout Europe and Central and South Asia, conducting audits, advising on UN policies, and liaising with international bodies. He has also served as a magistrate, including at the French Embassy in Hanoi, Vietnam, in the Directorate of European and International Affairs in the French Ministry of Justice on issues such as terrorism and organized crime, and at the Court of Versailles in the office responsible for the prosecution of economic and financial crimes.
