Port of Spain, Trinidad - Efforts by Caribbean host countries to provide security for the upcoming Cricket World Cup (CWC) will be enhanced by the addition of an INTERPOL liaison office, an INTERPOL Major Events Support Team (IMEST), an INTERPOL analyst and an officer from the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) to the recently created Regional Intelligence Fusion Centre (RIFC). These policing resources will merge to form one united support team working together at the Port of Spain, Trinidad.
"Collocating INTERPOL NCB staff, a General Secretariat Major Events Support Team and international police liaison officers within the same regional intelligence fusion center during the CWC will both enhance security and set the standard for future events,'' said INTERPOL Secretary General Ronald K. Noble.
This joint initiative will also include regional intelligence analysts and liaison officers from Cricket World Cup (CWC) participant countries and the Regional Operations Command Centre (ROCC). The ROCC is staffed by Caricom Operations Planning and Coordinating Staff (COPACS), a temporary body introduced to oversee and deliver all regional security plans and operations for CWC.
With top intelligence analysts from across the Caribbean region having recently completed INTERPOL’s advanced analytical training, these joint efforts are aimed at integrating and enhancing the overall security program during the CWC.
