INTERPOL is providing comprehensive security support to the nine Caribbean countries that will host matches of the Cricket World Cup: Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and Grenadines, and Trinidad and Tobago.

An INTERPOL Major Events Support Team (IMEST) has been in Trinidad and Tobago since October 2006 and will remain there until the end of the event to provide security and operational assistance to law enforcement bodies in the host countries.

INTERPOL helped National Central Bureaus in the nine countries extend access to its I-24/7 global police communication system to their immigration and intelligence services. The organization also assisted with the installation of MIND/FIND technical solutions at airports in the host countries, which enable law enforcement officers to instantly check passports against INTERPOL’s global database of stolen and lost travel documents. Organizers expect more than 100,000 visitors for the games.

With the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), INTERPOL helped establish a 'Regional Fusion Center' to collate, analyse and disseminate relevant law enforcement information before and during the event.

Last year, INTERPOL assisted with security for the Winter Olympics in Turin and football World Cup in Germany.
