LYON, France – INTERPOL has condemned the murder of former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto and offered its full support to investigating authorities to bring those responsible to justice.

INTERPOL’s 24-hour Command and Co-Ordination Centre is in constant contact with the Pakistani authorities and has been tasked to treat all requests for information from the INTERPOL National Central Bureau in Islamabad with the highest priority. A liaison team is on standby to travel to the scene to provide additional on-site assistance.

“Every support has been offered to the Pakistani authorities in their investigation to identify and bring to justice those responsible for the murder of Benazir Bhutto and all those who were killed and injured in this attack,” said INTERPOL Secretary General Ronald K. Noble.

INTERPOL’s global communications system, I-24/7, enables law enforcement officers around the world to instantly access databases on vital police information such as fingerprints and internationally wanted persons.

Officers from the organization’s Public Safety and Terrorism and Criminal Analysis Units are also examining INTERPOL’s global databases to establish whether any links can be drawn with other previous incidents around the world.
