Theft of valuable icon from a monastery in Greece

Click to enlargeOn 18 August 2006, unidentified thieves stole a valuable 700 year-old icon from the Eloni Arkadia monastery in Leonidio Village, Arkadia, Greece. They entered the monastery by breaking a window.

Icon, Virgin with the Child, wood, golden oklad with inserted precious stones, 50 x 40 cm.

Anyone with information about this theft is asked to contact the INTERPOL National Central Bureau in Athens (ref.: 3010/3/462-101070/06/GIAN) and the INTERPOL General Secretariat (ref.: 2006/38 668).
