The Right Honourable Lord Goldsmith QC, Her Majesty’s Attorney General for England and Wales, visited INTERPOL’s General Secretariat December 15 to get a better understanding of the organization’s operational support to member countries and some of the legal issues related to the provision of such services.
After meeting with INTERPOL Secretary General Ronald K. Noble, Lord Goldsmith heard a presentation on the International Child Sexual Exploitation Database, whose development is being funded by the G8, of which the United Kingdom is a member.
Lord Goldsmith was briefed on the FIND and MIND
integrated solutions developed by INTERPOL to enable front-line officers at airports, seaports and border-control units to access INTERPOL’s databases of stolen and lost travel documents, stolen motor vehicles and wanted persons.
He also visited the Command and Co-ordination Centre, which provides around-the-clock assistance to law enforcement authorities in member countries; and got a firsthand look at how the I-24/7 global communications network connects police in INTERPOL’s 186 member countries. |
