Norwegian police recovered two paintings by Edvard Munch, 'The Scream' and 'The Madonna', on 31 August 2006. Both paintings had been taken during an armed robbery from the Munch Museum in Oslo almost exactly two years ago, on 22 August 2004.
The masterpieces by the Norwegian expressionist figured among the most valuable cultural treasures, and they were included in INTERPOL’s works of art database and CD-ROM, which is available to private bodies, such as museums, collectors and art professionals and which is being replaced by a DVD for enhanced ease and user-friendliness.
'The Scream' was number 1 on the INTERPOL poster of the most wanted works of art, edition December 2004.
