Ronald K. Noble was elected Secretary General by the 69th INTERPOL General Assembly in Rhodes, Greece, in 2000, and was unanimously reelected to a second five-year term by the 74th INTERPOL General Assembly in Berlin, Germany, in 2005.

As INTERPOL's senior full time official, the Secretary General is in effect the organization's chief executive. Based at the General Secretariat in Lyon, France, he is responsible for all day to day operations of INTERPOL in its three core functions: secure global police communications services, operational data services and databases for police, and operational police support services.

The President helps shape the organization's vision by representing the interests of all member countries. While continuing to hold his full time position in his national police organization, the President will also chair the annual INTERPOL General Assembly and regular meetings of the Executive Committee. He directs the discussions and ensures that the activities of the organization conform with Executive Committee and General Assembly decisions. He also maintains, as far as possible, direct and constant contact with the Secretary General at the INTERPOL General Secretariat.

Current Secretary General

Secretary General Ronald K. Noble was nominated by the INTERPOL Executive Committee in July 1999 and confirmed by in a vote by delegates to the 69th INTERPOL General Assembly in Rhodes, Greece in November 2000. A professor of law at New York University, his law enforcement career includes service as an Assistant US Attorney and Deputy Assistant Attorney General. He was also Chief Law Enforcement Officer in the US Treasury Department from 1989 to 1996. Secretary General Noble was also President of the 26-nation Financial Action Task Force, the anti-money laundering organization established by the G7 group of nations in 1989.
