Resolution No AG-2006-RES-21

Strengthening Interpol's support structure and extension of the General Secretariat – Creation of a 'New Building' Fund


The ICPO-Interpol General Assembly, meeting in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 19 to 22 September 2006 at its 75th session:

HAVING STUDIED Report No. AG-2006-RAP-30 on the need and advisability to strengthen the General Secretariat's infrastructure in order to develop its capacity to better serve the Organization's member countries,

CONSIDERING that it is essential for the Organization to have the infrastructure necessary for the development of its activities with a view to enhancing international police co-operation among its Members,

MINDFUL of Article 20 of the Financial Regulations, on the creation of Funds,

SUPPORTS the Secretary General's initiative to increase the building structures intended to house the Organization's permanent departments;

THANKS Mr Nelson Mandela for his essential support towards this initiative;

DECIDES, in application of Article 20 of the Financial Regulations, to set up a 'New Building' Fund which will be used to finance the construction of a new building, and into which will be paid both the donations received from member countries and from public and private entities, as well as the interest generated by the investment of such donations;

DECIDES that the sums thus collected will serve to finance all the costs related to the construction, including the recruitment of temporary staff;

ASKS the Executive Committee to determine the amount of the Fund, once the financial studies are completed.
