Interpol Workshop on Preventing Bioterrorism

Subject: Initial notification of the three-day Interpol Workshop on Preventing Bioterrorism, Muscat, Oman
Following the 1st Interpol Global Conference on Preventing Bioterrorism held in Lyon from 1-2 March 2005, and its four regional workshops held in South Africa, Singapore, Chile and Ukraine, Interpol is pleased to announce that the next workshop will be held:
- in Muscat , Oman , from 19 to 21 March 2007
The main objectives of the workshop will be to:
- provide information and training (including training materials to be taken away by law enforcement officers for national use);
- encourage the development of a response capability;
- promote relations between and with international, regional and national organizations and law enforcement agencies;
- develop a draft plan of action (on national, regional and international bases)
To be attended by two representatives from each country:
- a chief police officer (Deputy National Police Chief or head of counter-terrorism)
- and a trainer/expert with expertise in the chemical, biological, radiological or nuclear (CBRN) or counter-terrorism field.
Participants will be encouraged to discuss their own national law enforcement experience in managing and investigating relevant major bio-related incidents, such as natural outbreaks of SARS, avian flu, FMD, etc.
Relevant international, regional and national bodies will also be invited.
