The 1st Interpol Global Conference to strengthen law enforcement preparedness
and develop effective police training
Lyon, France, 1-2 March 2005
More than 500 delegates from 155 countries attended Interpol's First Global
Conference on Preventing Bio-terrorism in Lyon on 1-2 March, 2005, the largest-ever
gathering of police, senior officials and experts.
The two-day conference examined the risk of bio-terror attacks, case studies,
prevention of attacks, preparation and training of law enforcement personnel,
and the related legal and political framework.
Scientific, legal and health experts participated in the event to ensure the
broadest possible perspective on the current and future threats posed by bio-terrorism.
Preventing and fighting terrorism around the world is one of Interpol's highest
priorities. The conference is part of a two-year Interpol programme funded largely
by a major grant from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. A series of workshops
will also be held around the world over the next 18 months - Africa (autumn
2005), Asia (spring 2006) and the Americas (summer 2006).
